The first thing that you need to know about shark fishing is when you should actually plan on going shark fishing.  Because sharks prefer warmer water, the shark fishing season usually starts around August.  Of course this really depends on where you are actually thinking about fishing!

If you are planning on shark fishing off the coast of Florida, you can plan your trip earlier than usual mainly because the water tends to stay warmer throughout the year.  There are many locations to go shark fishing.  You can fish on the east coast, in Florida or Long Island, or you can go shark fishing in Texas, depending on where you are located.

The gear that you are going to use when it comes to shark fishing is going to be a lot heavier than the usual fishing gear that you are going to be using.  Most people like to say that the heavier the gear, the better off you are going to be.  Sharks are big fish, and they weight a lot, so you are going to need gear that is going to help reel in that big fish!

Before you go shark fishing, you are going to want to decide what type of shark you are going to fish for.  You can shark for blue sharks, or tiger sharks, or you can even go so far as to fish for great white sharks.  The type of shark that you fish for is going to affect where you go shark fishing and when you go shark fishing.

Now, after you decide what you want type of shark you want to fish for, where you are going to go and when, you then need to decide how you are going to get out there on the water.  Most people prefer to hire a charter to take them out on the sea, this is the safest way and the easiest way because all you need to worry about is shark fishing.

Great White Shark Fishing

Fishing for Great White sharks is going to be quite an experience, especially if this is your first time fishing for a Great White shark.  If you have gone fishing for other sharks, then you might at least have a good idea about what you need to do in order to catch a shark.  But you dd need to keep in mind that your typical Great White shark is going to be a lot larger than the usual sharks you go shark fishing for.

The first thing that you need to know about shark fishing for the infamous Great White shark is the actual size that this shark can get.  A Great White shark can get up to 15 feet long, and some fisherman have seen Great White sharks that are as long as 17 feet!  So, as long as you know how big these sharks can get, you can get an idea of what you might be in for and what you will need to do in order to reel one of these sharks in.

If you feel that you are fully prepared to go shark fishing for a Great White shark, then look into getting onto a charter boat.  A chater boat is going to know exactly where to go and where to take you to catch a Great White shark.  The Great White shark can be found all the way down in Austrailia, so get on a boat and let someone take you to the shark, do not try and get there on your own.

Great White sharks as well as all sharks are attracted to blood, and blood in the water is going to be something that is going to really reel them in.  If you use the right amount of chum, you are going to be able to get that Great White trophy fish that you have always had you eye on.  If you can set up a god chum slick along your boat, then you should have a pretty decent shot at catching an actual Great White shark.

Catching a Great White shark or even attempting to catch a Great White shark can be incredibly dangerous, so you need to know what you are doing and you need to know how to be safe.  These sharks are incredibly large and once they are caught they are going to put up a huge fight, and you need to be prepared for that fight. Make sure that you have the right gear as well as the right knowledge in order to catch a Great White shark.  Once you know what you are in for, all you need to do is get out there in the water.  This is when you need to hire a charter to take you out there.  They can give you tips and you can fish with people who might have hunted for Great White sharks before. Best Places for Shark Fishing

Once you have all of your shark fishing gear and you are ready to get out there on the water, you need to figure out where you are actually going to go shark fishing.  Sharks are everywhere especially in warm waters, and if you know where the sharks lie, then you know where to go find them.

Florida is one of the best places to go fishing.  The water is incredibly warm, usually all year round.  This is one of the most popular places to go shark fishing.  Key West, specifically is a great place to go shark fishing, you can catch a wide variety of sharks here within the warm waters of Florida.

If you are looking to go shark fishing on the West Coast, then check out Southern California.  You can find the infamous Hammerhead out here in these waters, which tend to be a little bit cooler in temperature compared to the waters of Florida, but you can still manage to catch a good Hammerhead shark, or even a Blue Shark.

In Mexico you can go shark fishing for the infamous bull sharks.  There seems to be a lot of shark attacks out in the water of the Gulf of Mexico, so you should be careful when you are shark fishing, and if you are off shore shark fishing, then you need to be especially careful.

Equipment You Need to go Shark Fishing

In order to catch the right shark, or any shark for that matter you are going to need the right amount of gear.  This gear is much different than the gear you would use for those regular fishing trips.  You will not be able to catch a Mako or a Thresher, is you are using a rod to catch a Bass.  Here are some simple tips on what you are going to need in the way of gear for shark fishing.

Now, you need to get the right shark rod, when it comes to shark rods you really have two different rods that you can choose from.  You can choose from a spinning or a bait cast rod.  A spinning rod is going to be a good investment if you are only planning on going on shark fishing trips a few times a year.  And, if you find that you do not have a lot of money to spend on a rod, then a spinning rod is going to save you some money as well.  Bear in mind that a spinning rod is only designed to reel in sharks that are about six feet long, so if you are looking to catch something bigger, choose a rod that can really pack a punch.

Most rods are about 10 feet long, and will really allow you to catch a shark that is going to give you a fight.  Keep in mind though that these shark rods usually cost around $150, and can climb all the way up to $700 so if you do not have that kind of money you might want to stick to your spinner rod, and just go from there.

After you have the rod that you need to go shark fishing, you need the right tackle to actually bait the shark.  You are not going to get anywhere if you are not using the right shark bait.  Using the right amount of chum is going to help you catch a shark, after the shark starts to bit down and swallow on the bait, make sure that you start reeling them in!

Using the right type of gear is going to aid you in catching the biggest shark out there in the open sea.  Make sure that you have the best rod that you can afford in order to reel in the right kind of shark.  If you are not using a heavy set rod, then you are going to have a hard time reeling in the shark and sealing the deal.  From there, you need to get the right tackle and the right bait.  You need to get bait that is really going to get the shark going, get them to bite down.  Once you do that, then you can reel them in and you can take them on home with you!  Choose your gear wisely and go from there, once you do that you will have all of the tools that you need in order to catch the perfect shark.

What Type of Sharks to Fish for When Shark Fishing

When it comes to shark fishing, everyone likes to fish for a certain type of sharks.  Some sharks are easier to fish for and some of them really put up the challenge.  If you are just getting into shark fishing, then you should decide what you want to fish for, this can affect your entire shark fishing trip, so choose wisely.

If you are looking to fish for a big shark, a shark that is really going to put up a good fight, then look into fishing for Blue sharks.  Blue sharks tend to get up to about 12 feet, that is pretty big when it comes to sharks!  If this shark is something you have never fished for, then you are going to be in for a wild ride.  People who fish for Blue sharks, love the fight that they put up as well as the size of the actual shark.

If you are looking for a smaller shark, a shark that still packs a punch and gives you a wild ride, then go shark fishing for the Mako shark.  Mako sharks tend to jump up in the air when they have been caught and they really do give you a pretty good fight.  These sharks are most common in the Long Island waters.

Thresher sharks are also a very common shark to fish for, and people love to fish for these sharks. You can fish for these sharks in California or on the East Coast, depending when you are located and where you plan on going shark fishing. You can easily pick out a Thresher shark by the long tail that it has.

Shark fishing is a great sport, and there are so many sharks that you can end up fishing for.  If you are looking for a good fight, and you want to really get a good challenge, then you should take a look at fishing for the Blue shark.  Some people either love to fish for these sharks because of the fight they put up, or they do not like to fish for these sharks because of all of the energy that goes into reeling the shark in. If you want a shark that will put up a little bit of a fight, then check out the Mako shark, this shark lies to jump around once it has been caught.  It really does not matter what type of shark you fish for, the entire experience is going to be a worth while memory that you are never going to forget.  So, get out your shark fishing gear, and jump on your shark fishing boat, and take it from there.  Remember that location ad time of the year is key to catching the perfect the perfect shark. Just remember to be safe and be careful out there on the open water, these sharks are extremely unpredictable, you never know which way they are going to turn or which way they are going to swim!
